Athletic trainers (ATs) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, 急救护理, 临床诊断, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. 体育训练 encompasses the prevention, 检查, 诊断, 治疗, and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions. Athletic training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health 资源 服务 政府 (HRSA) and the Department of Health and Human 服务 (HHS) as an allied health care profession.
Many athletic trainers work in educational settings, 比如大学, 大学, 小学, 还有中学. Others work in hospitals, fitness centers, or physicians’ offices, or for professional sports teams.
The MSAT can be completed through two different pathways:
- Combined 3+2 degree completed in combination with either the BS in Kinesiology with a Concentration in Clinical Exercise Science or the BS in 健康科学. Learn more about the 3+2 combined degrees.
- Stand-alone two-year master's degree program

山姆 Houston State University is currently seeking accreditation for their new athletic training program and is not accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of 体育训练 教育 (CAATE). The institution will be submitting a self-study to begin the accreditation process on July 1, 2022. Submission of the self-study and completion of an onsite review does not guarantee that the program will become accredited. 学生 who graduate from the program prior to accreditation WILL NOT be eligible to sit for the credentialing 检查 for athletic trainers and will not be eligible for licensure in most states.
Applications to the Master of Science in 体育训练 (MSAT) program are reviewed on a rolling basis with one admission process annually.
