WHO ARE THEY ?

Castrovalva are an experimental noise rock trio (formerly duo) consisting of Drums, Bass and Vocals based in Leeds, England; “The explosive sound is filled with undeniable groove and a brutal catchiness which will push your senses to the limit …whilst their insanely immersive live shows are a spectacle to behold with every member pouring their blood and sweat (literally) into every gig.”

Already making there mark in the Leeds music scene and supporting bands such as MONOTONIX, HEALTH & AN ALBATROSS Castrovalva are already turning heads whilst touring the UK tour in april and Europe throughout May.

A Satan cocktail of musical elements – ARTROCKER MAGAZINE – Album of the Month April 2010 5/5

Madness takes many form but not so alluring as alluring as a trio of ferel noise bastards who enjoy nothing more than getting up in people’s grills. You’ll be rewarded with fun and lots of it – NME

“We Are a Unit is a breathtaking listen. But it’s this brevity and diversity that allows Castrovalva to shine where other fearsome live acts have failed – to make a record that does their performances justice.” – 8/10 Drowened in Sound

“Weirdo rock from a leeds trio taking a cue or two from fellow townsfolk That Fucking Tank but twisting a formula of exuberant brutality with neat proggy-toned sidesteps, this mini album is a headfuck like few others on these pages, impressively subversive.” – Rocksound Magazine

“You can imagine their live shows to be a tangle of noise and righteous poses” – Rock a Rolla Magazine

WHO ARE THEY ?

Chickenhawk were Born in 2004 and after constant touring a self released 3 track demo was recorded in 2005 & their debut album in 2007. The band joined the Brew Family mid 2009. Over the last year, Chickenhawk has undergone several radical changes. Matt Reid (ex-Whores Whores Whores drummer) joined mid 2008 as the debut album was due to be released, and Paul Astick moved from drums/vocals to guitar/vocals. ‘A.Or Not? was released in September 2009, the first release for Chickenhawk on Brew. The EP received international acclaim and lead track ‘I hate this, do you like it?’ gained national radio play from the likes of Radio 1, Radio 6 & XFM. During early 2009 the space themed ‘NASA Vs ESA’ video was created with Roach Productions. Coinciding with this, the band were also busy putting the finishing touches to the recently released ‘A. Or Not?’ EP on Brew. After its completion the band worked with NME photographer Danny North on his directorial debut, the zombie themed video for a new track taken from A. Or Not? – ‘I hate this, do you like it?’. Writing and recording for a brand new Chickenhawk album scheduled for release in April 2010 has begun, and will see the band further diversifying but still staying true to their own style of noise rock experimentation

NME Magazine – Track of the week ‘I Hate This, Do You Like It? Leeds based Chickenhawk are a group of riff thrasing metal bastards from the wrong side of your worst hangover. Take note, their drummer hits harder than the last time you dreamed you were Todd Trainer. This is the perfect raw vocal antidote to chirpy summer singalongs.

Artrocker – This EP is merciless, and I urge any fan of beastly rock and metal to nestle it next to your sweaty hearts.

Steve Lamacq “Crazed guitar rock from Leeds….featuring the ‘Beachers Brook’ of guitar solo’s” – ‘I Hate This Do You Like It’ on Radio 6.

Rock-A-Rolla Truely their own vision, no matter how skewed a vision that maybe.

Kerrang – Killer chaotic freaked-out prog-core KKKK

WHO ARE THEY ?

Kong is not a name chosen by accident. It does not describe an effeminate collection of callow fuckers thrust together by a desire to look plucked or sound eager to please. All are/were/shall be in other, perhaps more commercially viable bands, which is notable only because it fills out their biography and creates the impression of a deeper back-story, which becomes, by definition, massively interesting to idiots. Yes, Nancy was in Jane’s Addiction, and Milicent founded ITV. Kong’s music, such as it is, takes all the risibly obnoxious elements of lots of very loud, credible bands, feeds it non-brand specific lager, then comes on it in its sleep. In truth, they are difficult band to describe unless you’re a music journalist, in which case you’d probably pick a large animal (elephant, dinosaur or a fantastical creature of myth) and put it in an unusual place (Middlesbrough) with predictably madcap results. In summary – the first time I saw them play I felt a burning sensation on my arm and realised that I had developed eczema. Andrew Falkous 2008

(McLusky/Future of the left)

“If you like Shellac and Fugazi, consider Kong the toxic shock syndrome version; they will more than likely please your ears but definitely give you a side of nausea. How do I know? Cos I’ve got a copy of their hideously good debut album ‘Snake Magnet’ playing right now. Check it out upon its release on July 13th or I’ll send a scary baboon round to your gaff to set your eyelids on fire. Just messing. I’ll send Kong” – NME

“One of the best live bands in the UK right now” – Dan Carter BBC Radio 1

“Welcome to Kong’s world. It’s a world of heavy punk and cellotaped faces (leading to pretty scary gigs). You’d be mad not to enter – and you’ll probably leave it madder still” Artrocker

“Manchester mob definitively kick the pop out of the punk with this raw and abrasive track with a hefty dose of Fugazi lurking beneath the surface.” Kerrang

“Kong might just be the best band in Britain right now. Ferociously powerful, stunningly inventive, and equal doses of scary and humorous.” Dirtyzine

WHO ARE THEY ?

These Monsters hail from Leeds, England. ‘Call Me Dragon’ is the band’s debut album, soon to be released with Brew. Having sold out of 500 CD singles and 500 12”EP’s the band returned to the studio to put together an album that is as stunning as it is ambitious. Recorded at Foel Studios, Wales with Chris Fielding (Electric Wizard, The Klaxons, Napalm Death) and mastered at Turan Audio (Jimmy Eat World, Marilyn Manson, Will Haven). Call Me Dragon demonstrates the freaked out, riff driven prog-force that the respected four-piece have become. With their love of large vintage amplifiers, big drums and high energy, passionate performances, These Monsters deliver a huge live sound and are developing a reputation as one of the loudest and most exciting underground bands in the UK.

“One of the most interesting and engaging acts I’ve heard from the UK in a long fucking time – no word of a lie.” – Collective-zine

“These monsters are simply amazing. The four-piece make blunderbusses of songs that would give Godspeed You! Black Emperor or Mogwai nightmares. A vicious, energetic and loud-enough-to-be-pornographic live show.” – Sandman Magazine

“Time has frozen as witnesses halt in their tracks, intoxicated by the heady miasma of post-rock resonance. Both comforting and devastating.” – The Fly Magazine
